Okay, so, I’ve been eyeing the OMEGA Speedmaster for a while now. It’s a real classic, you know? That design, it’s pretty much been the same for decades. I always wanted the real deal, the original.
But, I stumbled upon this replica, a CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster 38mm Classic Style, and figured I’d give it a shot. This is my experience.
First off, I started doing some digging online. Read a bunch of stuff about what makes the real Speedmaster 38mm tick. I looked into what a real one cost, how it holds its value and all that. Apparently, it’s known for having a pretty good resale value, especially the special editions that are harder to come by.
Then, I ordered the copy. When it arrived, I opened it up and started checking it out, comparing it to what I’d learned about the real thing.
- I noticed the subdial placement, and the tachymeter scale on the bezel. On the original, everything is sharp and perfectly aligned. The spacing is specific, too. On this copy, it wasn’t quite right. It was a bit off, not lined up perfectly like the genuine OMEGA.
- The case and the bracelet felt different. It is just felt a bit cheap and not as solid as I expected. The real one is made with stainless steel, or sometimes even gold. I checked out some pics online and saw that the real ones use something called a Co-Axial escapement in their movement. This copy, obviously, didn’t have that.
I wore it around for a while. Got a few compliments, but it just didn’t feel the same. It’s like wearing a picture of a nice watch instead of the real thing. It looked okay at a glance, but it didn’t fool anyone who knew anything about watches.
My Conclusion
This CopyOMEGA Speedmaster 38mm, it kind of looks the part from far away. But up close, it’s easy to see it’s not the real deal. It’s not a bad watch for the price, I guess. But it didn’t really scratch that itch for a genuine Speedmaster. In the end, I decided to save up for a real one. It might take a while, but I think it’ll be worth it in the long run. This replica thing, it just confirmed that I really want the authentic experience. This copy, it’s just not the same, you know?
