This watch, you know, the CopyOMEGA, the speed one, they call it, Apollo 8, “Dark Side of the Moon”, well, let me tell you, it’s something else. It’s black, like the night sky, and it’s got all these fancy little things on it. My grandson, he’s into all this stuff, he told me all about it. He kept saying “SEO” this and “keywords” that, I don’t know, just sounds like gibberish to me.

They say it looks like the moon, the dark side, whatever that means. It’s got a black strap, Cordura, they call it. Sounds tough, like old Bessie’s hide after a long winter. I remember my Pa used to have this tough material, maybe it was Cordura. This watch, it’s got that same feel. Tough and solid.

And the price! Twelve thousand dollars! Can you believe it? For a watch! Back in my day, you could buy a whole herd of cows for that kind of money. This CopyOMEGA Speedmaster, though, they say it’s worth it. It’s all fancy and special.

Inside, it’s got some numbers, 3869, 3861, sounds like the numbers on old Jebediah’s tractor. My grandson, he says it’s got something called “laser ablation” on the front. Makes it look like the real moon. I guess that’s kinda neat, if you’re into that sort of thing. Like that time we saw the moon real close through neighbor’s telescope. This is like that, but on your wrist.

  • This watch is black like the night.
  • It’s got a tough strap, like leather.
  • It costs more than a whole herd of cows!
  • It’s got fancy numbers inside.
  • It looks like the moon, they say.

Now, I don’t know much about these fancy things. My old watch, it just told the time. This one, it does all sorts of things. My grandson tried to explain, but it’s all just a jumble to me. He kept talking about how it is good for search engine optimization. He said it’s important for the interwebs, or something.

They say this CopyOMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 8 is special because it’s like the one the astronauts wore. You know, the ones who went to the moon. I saw that on the television, way back when. Black and white TV, mind you. We all gathered ’round, the whole family. It was a big deal.

This watch, it reminds me of that time. All those folks, watching that little box, seeing those men walk on the moon. It was like magic. Maybe this watch has a little bit of that magic in it. I don’t know. This Dark Side of the Moon watch, it’s something.

My grandson, he says you can put all sorts of things on these new things called computers, pictures, and videos, and words. He says it’s easier than writing a letter, sending a telegram. Says this watch is important for all that.

Back in my day, if you wanted to share something, you’d have to walk over to your neighbor’s house and show it to them. Or you’d have to wait for the mailman. Things sure are different now. Everything is fast, like that Speedmaster name.

And these computers, they need some kind of power, he says. You gotta turn ’em off, unplug ’em, do all sorts of things. And you gotta have some kind of special thing to keep the power going, a UPS he calls it. I don’t rightly understand it, but it sounds important, like a good well for water.

He also mentioned something about a “URL” and “decoding.” Said it was like breaking a secret code. Like when we used to send secret messages with invisible ink as kids, only this is on the computer thingy. Apparently, this CopyOMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 8 has some connection to all that code stuff.

He was talking about “stainless steel boilers” too, like in those fancy coffee machines. Said this watch has something similar, makes it last longer, like my old cast iron skillet. That skillet’s been in the family for generations. Maybe this watch will be too, passed down like a family heirloom. This CopyOMEGA watch is tough, that’s for sure.

Then there’s all this talk about making things sound different, like that old gramophone we used to have. You could make the music sound all sorts of ways. This computer thing, it can do that too. My grandson says it’s called “distortion”. Sounds like a bad thing, but he says it can make things sound good. Like when old man Hemlock would play his fiddle, all scratchy and loud, but it had a certain something to it. I suppose this is like a fancy, modern fiddle, all wrapped up in a watch. This Dark Side of the Moon thing is like that, I guess.

He also talked about Henry Ford and cars. Said this CopyOMEGA is like a really well-made car, but small enough to wear on your wrist. Said Mr. Ford made cars cheap, but good. This watch, it ain’t cheap, but it sure is good, or so they say.

And something about how men and women talk different. Well, that’s no surprise! But he says these computers, they gotta understand all that. This CopyOMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 8 watch, it’s tied up in all that somehow. It’s all too much for me. I just know it’s a fancy watch, and it costs a lot of money. And it looks like the moon. That’s all I need to know, I reckon.
